Why some vials look smaller or bigger
Different pharmacies may use different brands or bottle sizes, so the strength can change. Your doctor’s dose is the same, but the amount you draw up can change.
- The bottle size can change. Some vials are small, some are bigger.
- What’s inside can be “stronger” or “weaker.” This is called the concentration.
- mg (milligrams) = how much medicine.
- mL (milliliters) = how much liquid.
- mg per mL tells you how strong the liquid is (like hot chocolate mix in more or less water).
Different pharmacies may use different brands or bottle sizes, so the strength can change. Your doctor’s dose is the same, but the amount you draw up can change.
- One vial might be 2 mg/mL (stronger).
- Another might be 1 mg/mL (less strong).
- Labels may show your dose in mg, in mL, or in units (numbers on some syringes). These are just different ways to measure the same dose.
- If your dose is 1 mg:
- From a 2 mg/mL vial → draw 0.5 mL.
- From a 1 mg/mL vial → draw 1 mL.
Most important rule Always follow the pharmacy label on each new vial. Check the strength (mg/mL) and use the exact amount (mL or units) on that label—even if it’s different from your last vial.
Handy checklist for each new vial - Read the label: What dose does it tell you to take?
- Find the strength: What does it say for mg per mL?
- Match your syringe: Use the syringe type the label says (mL or units).
- When in doubt, call: Ask the pharmacist or your provider to double-check how much to draw up.
Additional injecting supplies may be purchased at any drug store or on Amazon:
Needles and syringes should be safely disposed of. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified ways to safely handle medical sharps:
- Do NOT recap needles.
- Place sharps in either a medical sharps container (purchased from Amazon or a pharmacy) or in a heavy plastic or metal container.
- You may use household containers, such as plastic detergent bottles, with a securely closing lid.
- Do not overfill containers.
- Keep containers out of reach from children and pets.
- Fully seal sharps container prior to disposal in a solid waste receptacle.
- Never place the container in the recycle bin.
How you store your GLP-1 medicine at home is critical for maintaining its effectiveness and safety. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always store your GLP-1 medicine in the refrigerator at 36–46°F (2–8°C). Exposing your GLP-1 medicine to direct sunlight or other heat sources can affect the medication’s potency.
- Keep your GLP-1 medicine out of reach of children and pets.
- Check your GLP-1 medicine before use for any discoloration or unusual changes in appearance. If you notice anything out of the ordinary (such as a cloudy appearance), do not use the medication.
- Contact Kin Meds or your pharmacy if you have any questions.
