Rosanne Newman, MD

Dr. Rosanne Newman earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University at Buffalo in 1977 and went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1983 from the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (formerly the Sackler School of Medicine) in Tel Aviv, Israel. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at SUNY Stony Brook in 1987 and maintains board certification in Internal Medicine. She previously held certifications in Geriatrics and Hospice & Palliative Care.


Dr. Newman began her career as Director of the Emergency Treatment Area at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport, NY. After relocating to Norfolk, VA, she served as Medical Director for Sentara Navcare before transitioning to Sentara’s long-term care division, where she provided primary care and medical leadership for nursing homes and assisted living communities. She later became the founding Medical Director and sole physician of Virginia’s first PACE program. Her final role at Sentara was leading a comprehensive geriatric ambulatory care practice as its sole physician.


Dr. Newman transitioned to Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), where she helped launch the Geriatric Fellowship program while continuing her outpatient practice. During her six years on faculty, she was recognized by her peers as a Top Doc in Geriatrics and expanded her expertise by obtaining certification in Hospice & Palliative Care. She subsequently served as an inpatient Hospice & Palliative Care physician with Bon Secours before being appointed Medical Director of the inpatient Hospice program at the Hampton VAMC.


Outside of medicine, Dr. Newman enjoys spending time with her two children and three grandchildren in North Carolina. She is an avid reader and finds joy in cooking, especially preparing the produce grown by her spouse.
